Hawk,

>How about this one... The customer is ALWAYS right.

Sorry, but the resistance is coming from the special interest groups, who are clearly, NOT the customer. There is much support in the US from the consumer side, many states Governors and including Alan Greenspan on this interruption of free market flows.

It is premature to assume the US will win, as Canada has successfully fought earlier challenges through International mediation etc. Canada has done this before but it takes huge amounts of time and money, with time being the critical factor as thousands of Canadians remained unemployed. This point is not lost on the US negotiators as they hold their cards closely to their chests and peer at their counterparts.

I agree totally with the Greenspan piece you linked. The point is the US is the strongest country in the world. That is certainly not in dispute. A lot of good work and hard work made it that way.

How is it that the US is vigorously fighting the protectionism practiced by Japan to block US goods. Yet, it uses the same practices against tiny Canada. It just seems to me that a little more consistency and a little less politicking would benefit all of us. Don't forget, the best negotiation is where both parties win.
