Rupert, Techie, et al.:

So, uh, let me see if I got this right? Pardon me but I am just a dumb lawyer whose principal interest in Amati and in networking stocks is their medium term upside potential. (Before you object, this is an investors' site after all.)

There won't be a real ramp up ADSL installation until sometime in 1998, and it won't start to get ubiquitous until the next century. In the meantime, however, there will be limited roll outs of ADSL starting later this year, and attendant publicity (presumably rave reviews by wireheads and hopeful WAN telecommuters starving for bandwidth). Further according to Rupert, the RBOCs will have to make a massive investment in ATM and other backbone equipment in the next few years to make ADSL really scream. Presumably, a few smart people will create a few web sites that really take advantage of ADSL's speed.

Well, isn't this all we need to cash in on a sizable portion of our ADSL and networking stocks and move on the next great upcoming technology or retire? I would think that most of us will be out of ADSL and onto something else long before ADSL is in every other home in the developed world. Am I mistaken?

Well, that's just nifty, and I am a very happy camper.
