Re: VOD going CDMA2000 in the future

IMH(and considerably less informed than you or engineer)O, there are two things that have to happen for VOD, or any of the GSM/TDMA folks, to switch:

1. CDMA2000 data advantages have to be proven in the marketplace to the extent that GSM/TDMA carriers can see a negative impact on their ability to grow their sub base.

2. wCDMA delays have to become even further protracted to the extent that GSM/TDMA carriers can see that (1)above will persist for an intolerably long time.

Guess of a time frame for this to occur? Maybe as soon as a couple of years, or as long as five years, in countries where the two technologies compete head-to-head. In Europe, who knows?

Of course, (1) and (2) may not occur at all. wCDMA may deploy as some envision. As a Q long I am prepared to accept that Q's growth over the next couple of years is largely governed by the rate of uptake of 1X on existing CDMA networks. Anything beyond that, such as India, China, good news in South America, or rapid wCDMA rollout would be a bonus.
