gda,

You said, "Your requirement that a sacred book must "be readable" is like saying that the Old Testament should have been written in modern English."

The original manuscripts are predominately in Hebrew, with small exceptions. But God provided modern English translations for us. So they are versions written in modern English. And similiarly, the Qu'ran is wriiten in Arabaic. But God has provided an English version.

I agree that there might be some translational issues when converted from language to language. But we have the original manuscripts to go back to and see their original meanings if there are issues, when talking about the bible specifically. (I am trying to stay off the bible and Christianity here. But it keeps getting brought up! I apologize once again for those not interested in it!)

And I am not sure if you saw this link, but you might be interested, about the Qu'ran....

Also language of the time in the Qu'ran, and the way it was written, is an issue:

I also can offer you the perfect book. Never before was an error found in its original manuscripts. If you are interested in it, I will send you a private message to tell you what it is!

And this is IMHO and you have every right to disagree!

God Bless,
IGIT
