gda:
First of all, my sincere apologies to you if you felt I was making the debate difficult. It was not intended to be.
I agree with what you are saying, and believe me I do say the same things. Except I feel you are a bit more unrealistic than I am.
The truth of the matter is the Islamic leaders (and I am not talking about the Harvard type Muslim scholar who no one cares about but the politically correct media), but the average Mullah, and Ayatollah with millions of blind followers) will never interpret Koran in an idealistic loving peaceful manner. You know why?
First of all 9as you also noted in one of your post) Koran will never be sanitized and therefore no one can ever really put a positive spin on some of its barbaric violent verses (in their current format).
Secondly, even if such a positive spin is put on Koran, Mullahs and Ayatollahs will never go along with it. Because that will undermine their own self-serving control of the society they live in. Just think about this for a minute, if they say to their followers to love and to be in peace with everyone - Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Zoroastrians, etc. etc. etc. - then they open themselves to be influenced by other ideologies and cultures. If you understand Islam just a bit – you also know that it is a complete totalitarian social and political system of life. Think of the old Soviet Union and how the people in charge hated when American democratic ideologies penetrated their system of living. But eventually and inevitably Islam will be flushed out just te same as Soviet Union was flushed out.
Take Iran for example. If the clergy in charge starts talking about love and peace with everyone (including the U.S), then the attention and focus will be turned on "them" as oppose to the current situation where people are entertained with hating external forces (such as the U.S, Israel, etc. etc.). Once people start loving all external matters and nothing to be entertained about externally, then the focus will be on the horrible internal affairs (such as the economy, and the political oppressions). Therefore they always have to keep some type of struggle alive!
It is the motto of Islam (as advocated by these mullahs and Imams) for Muslims to always struggle - whether it is with the Jews, or the West, or whoever or whatever. A Muslim can never live in peace and is always – one way or another – a ”victim” of something! If that struggle ends, I can guarantee you that will be the day Islam (as we know it) will be gone for ever and for good!
As I am typing this I hear in the background CNN reporting that just a few moments ago a couple of Muslim psychotic thugs blew up themselves in Jerusalem killing hundreds of innocent people. Let me ask you this. How many Islamic leaders (the Mullahs, and Ayatollahs, and the types you and I both hope can eventually be educated with such concepts as "humanity") are going to condemn these actions? It is estimated for every 250 Muslims there is one Mullah, and/o Ayatollah,and/or Imam! .. With 1.2 Billion Muslims, there are close to 5 million mullahs, and Ayatollals. How many of these so called Islamic religious leaders do you think are going to condemn such psychotic evil actions?
You stated: I also resent you using Hitler for any purpose in this debate
And as for my reference to Hitler, as you read my post, I was just trying to give an analogy that justifying Islam's evil violent nature because at some point in the past Christianity and Judaism were like that, would be similar to justifying the existence of Saddam Hossein simply because there was an evil man named Adolph Hitler in the past! So why are you bothered by that and taking that so personal??!!
