I'm on a well also. I have an iron filter ahead of my softener and back flush that once a month. That back flush comes out dark orange for about 5 minutes. If I had an oak tree I water it with what comes out of the filter. I put one of those things like your Purolater on my sink only mine is a Culligan. I also keep a gallon on hand but I keep mine in the refrigerator for drinking water. Brita also makes the filters.
