In reality, the Muslims have a significantly stronger religious claim to this piece of property, and it's quite obvious to even a layman. The Wailing Wall is the site of the last Jewish temple destroyed by the Romans. In other words, it's like the original Holocaust museum, a secular symbol of persecution (hence the notorious Jewish persecution complex). The Dome of the Rock, on the other hand, has massive religious significance. It is the place where Mohammed arose to heaven.

Tom, when Mohammed died there was a Byzantine Church on the Temple Mount. In fact, there wasn't one mosque in all of Palestine when Mohammed died; the Arabs hadn't conquered the region yet. The first mosque was built 80 years after Mohammed died.

After it was built, Muslims began to identify "the furthest Mosque" mentioned in the Quran with the Dome of the Rock. The Quran itself never mentions Jerusalem. There is no evidence, in the Quran or anywhere else, that Mohammed ever was in Palestine.

You might try reading actual historians some time, instead of getting all your information from electronicintifada.
