Thanks for the MEF article Nadine,

I've read MEF articles before, and they are usually very good.

Benny Morris does come in for a severe roasting in that article. I'm surprised that historians can disagree that much.

I did believe the UN should intervene in Israel and finish off a problem they help start. Recent performance shows they are not capable of anything significant. My current belief is that there should be two states, and education used as a tool to remove hatred from the communities. The problem should go away in a generation.

Anyway, moving on...

As you know, I've been a strong supporter of the Afghan war up till this point. I'm not sure how the next phase (even Bush it calling it "phase two") can be done successfully.

Afghanistan was a war, Isreal/Palestine looks more like an extended "police action" like Northern Ireland. A lot more messy without clear objectives (to me as yet).

My parents have just come back from vacation in Egypt. They had a problem with some terrorists shooting a whole load of tourists a few years ago.

The story related to me is the suspects were rounded up, no trial, and shot. The mothers were asked to come and pick up the bodies. An example of firm action that seems to have had a positive effect from what I have been told.
