ANALYST ERIC ROTHDEUTSCH at Robertson Stephens has issued notes to his clients indicating that both AMD and Intel are performing better in this quarter than many expected.
According to Rothdeutsch, who has just completed a whistle stop tour of Asia, there is "solid demand" for AMD's Athlon XP and he also believes there is no problem with its .13 micron process, as another analyst claimed last week.

The analyst thinks that it may sell more than the eight million units he estimated for AMD's fourth financial quarter, and is saying people should buy the shares.

In the note, Rothdeutsch says he believes the company has seen .13 micron silicon working for its 64-bit Hammer processor.

AMD has benefited from a shortage of Intel Pentium 4 parts but Robertson Stephens believes the firm has now sold out its XP 1500 and 1600 parts, and orders are strong for the 1700, 1800 and 1900 parts. (...)"
