Hmm, then why are the most popular sites on the web replicas of passive tv-style entertainment? Sports scores, porn, and push technology... sounds like glorified television to me. Oh yeah, and hot stock tips.

Anything active, participatory, or vaguely resembling an informed discussion such as this one is not in the same popularity league as the above four.

This makes me think that what people really want is TV with more choices, and more freedom (read: fewer standards, more hearsay, more porn). Participation has nothing to do with it. The cable companies, if they play their cards right, could be in for an excellent future. Maybe they will even usurp the internet infrastructure/bandwidth to bring the people more of the same.

IMHO only.
