Only monopoly can do that, right? you have it wrong. a monopoly does not want to segment the market, but rather consolidate it. that way, one size fits all - it means less projects, which translates to less spending. just look at how many different kinds of Windows that msft puts out currently (Windows XP, Windows XP Server, Windows XP Data Center, Windows XP 64), compared to how many Intel puts out (Itanium, Xeon large cache, Pentium 4, Pentium III-M, Celeron, X-Scale, Strong-ARM, IXP architecture, etc). Intel is catering to the needs of the people - that's what segmentation is all about. if Intel were a monopoly, they'd consolidate everything around a single x86 solution, which is what they do best.
