I totally believe that it is the responsibility of every Muslim to educate their own before criticizing 'outsiders' and I would say this to people of any faith. If people of your own faith cannot understand the teachings of your religion, how would you expect anyone else to? Charity begins at home. Time for the Muslims to start giving...at home!

I am not familiar with the intricate details of the conflict in the middle east only that I know it seems to have been going on forever. The irony to a layperson as myself is that Christians,Jews and Muslims believe in the same God by my interpretation of the posts here and on Islam, the Message. Please tell me if I'm wrong. The only thing they are arguing about is who's word is the real word of God. Does it matter? really? God is God... how can His message be THAT different? Has anyone ever thought about that before pointing fingers and trying to figure who is right or wrong? So my cup is half empty and yours is half full. It is still a cup filled with water. Does it change things? It's not like we have devil worshippers on one side and believers of God on another!

There has been talk of persecution and so forth here referred to in some of the verses. To my limited knowledge, Palestinians are not forbidden to practice their religion in Israel. OK... so what's the beef? You do your thing and I'll do mine. But in Afghanistan, under the Taliban the answer is NO. You do my thing or you're dead or in jail. So, who's pot is calling the kettle black here? I know I am being simplistic and I am probably wrong in some of my assessment but I think if we can reduce things to their most basic elements is where we will find the simplest answers. I think we call all agree that every religion has a common goal. Isn't that enough to know we are all brothers and sisters underneath our differences whether it be race, colour, culture, religion?

I use to wonder why I did not have a strong faith in my life. Now, I'm beginning to see the ugliness that faith can bring when it entrenches people so deeply in their belief that it harms/alienates others and I'm glad that I have an open mind.

sorry, don't mean to preach
