@HOME has been asking for $50 per customer...so if Cox and other stay attached and maintain margins, it may be quite costly. As an unhooked AT&T customer [using dial-up temporarily], I tend to blame the judge [4 million customers? TO H*LL WITH EM] and the toothless FCC [please Mr. Judge, don't unhook those folks...but nothing we can do, if you do] for subordinating the needs of the people to those of the creditors. The people that provided capital to @home either knew the risk or should have....there was no Luca Brazi holding a gun to their heads. If @home had stuck to their knitting of providing broadband network without the excite, 780mm for bluemountain...this was nutty stuff those bondholders financed. That's the reason they're trying to extort more out of users and intermediaries.
I applaud AT&T for trying to go it alone. Users were warned and they could have notified correspondents to use alternate email addresses. Still this episode highlights the need for legislation to protect users from battling providers and California judges [OJ].
