I find the lean to the left in the media to be quite dramatic. I come from a family of journalists and just the other day here on SI, my Mom was actually discussing how the bias is most effectively implemented. And that is through omission. It is often what is not printed/broadcasted that dictates the bias. But it is pretty easy to find bias if you want to. Just look for the subjective, sensationalistic or otherwise judging words. Then look at the context of the piece and the bias becomes clear.

Currently in the family, we are down to two newspaper people in our family. My uncle is the News Editor for a paper in a major metropolitan city and my cousin (his daughter) is also the News Editor for a major metro paper. Another uncle (now deceased) was a reporter for the LA Times and my Grandfather had a rather noteworthy career that culminated with him being the head photo editor for AP.

To be honest, I find the assertion that journalists keep bias out of their reporting to be absurd. Not being a Republican or a Democrat, it is easy to see the bias on both sides of the fence. I imagine if there were a few more journalists out there who held my views, that I would have a tough time detecting their bias.
