| Jesus commissioned the Apostles. If you believe in the divinity of Jesus, it seems to me that you must assume that the Church was under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and that He specifically knew what He was doing in establishing the Apostles, who in turn established the various individual churches, and who accepted Paul among their number. The Church, led by the Apostles and their successors, is the historical link between Jesus and his followers. As I said, the Church determined the order of the canon, and accepted the Old Testament as being a preamble to the New. Sure, it might have gone wrong practically from the beginning, but then, that would be an argument against the divinity of Christ and the sacredness of His mission. If you are a Christian the way that someone else is a Platonist, I suppose it doesn't matter. On the other hand, even then, one should be polite enough to find a word conveying the distinction between that and traditional Christianity.......... |
