It is the beginning of life. How much easier can that be? Can't be, otherwise you would have to argue that an egg or sperm are dead before conception. It falls apart as either an ethical or scientific concept at many levels. Conception is just one of the interesting processes that happens to animal cells and not even the most interesting. Conception is even more basic, found in many plants, so while it is an event for living organisms it is hardly an event that sets humans apart from most other organisms which are not accorded civil rights.
