LTK007: In response to your question...The weekly update from one of the newsletters I subscribe to (Wall Street Winners) believes that if the Nasdaq cannot cross its 200-day ma of 1961, it is heading to the 50-dma of around 1733.

They report: "But don't just take our word for it -- check out where the smart money is betting. The weekly Commitment of Traders Report distinguishes commercial and non-commercial Nasdaq 100 futures trading by position type. When the big commercial traders -- the smart money --
are net short, that's a good sign the market will head lower. And when the small traders are net long, that's a great contrary indicator -- small players almost always stay with the short-term trend far too long.

During the past few weeks, we've noticed a gradual deterioration in this indicator. After a small bounce in October and November, commercial traders are again aggressively shorting Nasdaq 100 futures. Meanwhile, the smaller players are jumping on the bandwagon, adding to their long positions on the Nasdaq -- that's a classic symptom of a toppy market. Don't expect a break to major new highs in the Nasdaq anytime soon."

I do not know how or where to access the weekly Commitment of Traders Report, but this sounds as if it is what you are asking about.
