No wonder AMD doesn't think they need another new FAB just yet:

AMD will have a capacity of 5K * 13 * 315 = 20 million CPUs per quarter by the end of next year...

And world demand has been running about 32-35 million CPUs per quarter....

And AMD will be getting additional Durons from Taiwan foundries...

And VIA will be shipping some CPUs of its own, too....

It's a good thing for Intel that the losses in their "other" business are declining, since they may not have much else by the end of next year.

Ruiz also told investors that at 0.18 micron, AMD's process technology yields 200 usable die of Athlons, which measure 129mm squared each. At 0.13 micron, AMD will be able to produce 315 die per wafer, as the company shifts to its Thoroughbred core.

AMD also plans a rapid shift to 0.13 micron, Ruiz said. It takes Intel an estimated six to eight quarters to shift from one process technology node to the next. AMD plans to shift its entire production to 0.13-micron technology starting in this quarter and ending in the fourth quarter of next year.
