U.S. Stocks Fall; Shares of J.P. Morgan, Citigroup Drop on Loan Concerns
By Robert Dieterich

New York, Dec. 3 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks fell, driving the Standard & Poor's 500 Index to its fourth decline in five days. Financial stocks including J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. and Citigroup Inc. led the drop on speculation they face bigger-than-expected losses from Enron Corp.'s record bankruptcy.

``If there's one concern today, it's how these bad loans to Enron are going to spread through the banking system,'' said Gil Knight, who helps manage $11 billion at Allied Investment Advisers in Baltimore.

General Electric Co. fell after Salomon Smith Barney Inc. said some of its businesses, including broadcasting, may not be as strong as anticipated. Dynegy Inc. slid after Enron sued its rival energy trader for $10 billion, saying Dynegy had no right to scuttle its planned acquisition.
