Israel bulldozes Palestinians' airport

Israeli tanks have entered Gaza International Airport.

A spokesman for Ariel Sharon says Israel is making sure no-one can take off from the airport, which is used by Yasser Arafat on overseas trips.

There have been reports of bulldozers tearing up the runway.

The airport has been a vital link between the Palestinians and the rest of the world since it was opened in 1998, and Palestinians consider it a symbol of sovereignty.

Hours before, 10 people sustained injuries when Israeli helicopter gunships launched a strike on an airbase by Yasser Arafat's headquarters in Gaza.

Two helicopters were damaged in the attack.

The Israeli attacks have intensified following a declaration of total war by the Israeli premier.

Mr Sharon says Israel will employ every means at its disposal to prevent further terrorist attacks by Palestinians.
