Arafat targeted in Israeli missile raid

Yasser Arafat is being targeted by Israeli helicopter gunships.

Missiles have been fired at his West Bank headquarters where the Palestinian leader is trapped.

Witnesses say three missiles have exploded just a few yards from his office in Ramallah.

Mr Arafat was present during the attack, but no-one was injured, officials say.

Palestinian officials fled the compound in panic. Palestinian officials say Mr Arafat did not leave the building.

Mr Arafat has been trapped on the West Bank since last night when Israeli air raids destroyed his two helicopters in an attack on Gaza City.

During the morning, the Israeli army has destroyed the runway at Gaza International Airport.

There is no land route out of the West Bank since Israel has been blockading all West Bank towns, including Ramallah, since the weekend suicide bombings.
