Bombardier Receives a $88 Million Order for TGV Duplex in France
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--DECEMBER 4, 2001 - 10:58 EST The consortium comprised of Bombardier Transportation and Alstom Transport has received from the French National Railway Company (SNCF) an order for 18 TGV Duplex trainsets. This order represents the exercise of options from a contract signed with the SNCF in October 2000. The total amount of this new order is $491 million Cdn (350 million euros), with Bombardier Transportation's share amounting to approximately $88 million Cdn (63 million euros). Bombardier will manufacture the two first-class vehicles, one second-class vehicle and six carrying bogies for each of the 10-car trainsets. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between March 2004 and March 2005.
To date, Bombardier has contributed to the production of 259 TGV trainsets. Between 1985 and 1992, the company has equipped 105 TGV Atlantique trainsets, 30 two-current and 50 three-current TGV Reseau trainsets as well as 10 TGV Thalys trainsets. Since December 1993, Bombardier Transportation has taken part in the manufacture of 64 TGV Duplex trainsets.
Bombardier Transportation in France carries out its activities at its Crespin site, in the Valenciennois region, where it employs more than 1,250 people. In the French market, Bombardier Transportation participates in all TGV programs and manufactures a wide range of rolling stock for public transport. Among these products are the MF 88 and MF 2000 vehicles for the Paris metro, the Strasbourg, Nantes and Saint-Etienne tramways, the Nancy and Caen trams-on-tires, recent vehicles for the RER network and the TER2N NG regional transport railcars. In addition, Bombardier Transportation was recently selected by the SNCF to supply 500 high-capacity regional trains to the French Regions.
