I agree that in the interview, Via was trying to say that their products will still be needed, even though Hammer eliminates the most expensive and differentiating part of the chipset.

But I think you have a good point about the configuration of the low cost UMA chipsets. If the 2 choices are integrated memory controller + graphics, serving the CPU memory needs as well vs. Hammer processor with onboard memory controller serving memory to the graphics, given equal bandwidth, the 2nd solution should be faster, and cheaper, since memory controller silicon does not have to be duplicated on the chipset.
