Sprint PCS Bullish On 2002
BY KRISTY BASSUENER
DECEMBER 4, 2001

Sprint PCS, the nation's No. 4 mobile carrier, today re-affirmed its financial
guidance for the fourth quarter of 2001 and revealed a sunny outlook for 2002.

For this quarter, Sprint PCS expects to report sales of $2.7 billion to $2.8 billion
-- more than 40 percent higher than the final quarter of 2000. Growth will be
seen in both customer additions and steady hikes in average revenue per
customer. Net additions for the full year 2001 should be about 4.2 million, with a
churn rate of 3 percent. Those projections are in line with previous estimates by
industry analysts at Lehman Brothers.

For full-year 2002, Sprint PCS expects ARPU will continue at the $60-plus level.
In the third quarter of this year, Sprint reported an ARPU of $62. The carrier
anticipates sales of about $13 billion -- a more than 30 percent growth rate.
Lehman Brothers had previously estimated 2002 ARPU at $58 and sales of about
$11.8 billion -- a 20 percent growth rate.

Sprint PCS expects to add between 3.6 million and 3.7 million new customers in
2002, with a churn rate in the upper 2 percent range.

Finally, Sprint Corp. Chairman William Esrey said the mobile unit would focus on
mobile data in the upcoming quarters: 'Data services will be an increasingly
important component of the wireless industry... While we are in the very early
stages of building this customer base, our PCS operation already has more than
2 million wireless data users. We expect this growth will accelerate as we move to
higher data speeds with the introduction of 3G wireless technology in 2002.'

At midday, Sprint PCS shares rose 0.55 percent to $25.58.
