ANSYS, Inc. Announces Support for Itanium Systems Running on HP-UX; ANSYS 6.0 Is the First CAE Software Available on Itanium-Based HP-UX Systems

CANONSBURG, Pa., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- ANSYS®, Inc. (Nasdaq: ANSS - news), the global innovator of simulation software and technologies aimed at optimizing product development process, today announced that its ANSYS® 6.0 simulation software suite is fully supported on Hewlett-Packard Company's new high- performance HP-UX systems featuring the 64-bit Intel® Itanium(TM) processor.

ANSYS, Inc. worked with HP to make the ANSYS 6.0 simulation software suite the first computer-aided engineering (CAE) software available on Itanium-based systems running HP-UX, allowing ANSYS users access to the next-generation of hardware technology. As a co-inventor of the Itanium Processor Family (IPF) architecture, HP is one of the first computer companies to offer the latest Intel processor technology.

HP's HP-UX operating system is the industry's leading enterprise-class UNIX operating environment, providing a highly reliable, standards-based foundation for companies to run and manage business-critical solutions. Using HP-UX systems, coupled with Itanium processors, ANSYS users can enjoy advanced capabilities that improve development speed and decrease costs.

Featuring 64-bit addressing, Itanium incorporates both hardware and software advances focused on enabling, enhancing, expressing, and exploiting parallelism. These enhancements provide superior application performance and, through Intel's volume manufacturing, lower costs.

``We are pleased to again be the first-to-market with a revolutionary technology to further assist our clients and customers,'' stated Michael Wheeler, vice president of marketing for ANSYS, Inc. ``We feel that the Intel technology, combined with the robust capabilities and stability of HP's HP-UX system, will provide ANSYS 6.0 users with unprecedented cost savings and performance that supports their current and future developments.''

``ANSYS, Inc. has a long history of collaboration with HP,'' stated Knute Christensen, market development manager in HP's Technical Computing Division. ``ANSYS users can now transition to Itanium systems while retaining the reliability and stability of HP-UX.''
