Manually Configuring Supported Windows Operating Systems
Your transition to AT&T Broadband Internet involves only a few steps on your part. Settings for your network connection have changed, as well as your home page, e-mail domain and configuration, and Newsgroups configuration. You will need to manually reconfigure a few of your program settings so you can continue using them without interruption. Select a link below to review the instructions for your programs.

Configuring TCP/IP On Windows 95 and Windows 98
Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. Double-click the Network icon. Highlight the listed TCP/IP protocol that is bound to the network card you are using. Click Properties. Select the IP Address tab. Verify that Obtain an IP address automatically is checked. This will gray out any previously set IP Address or Subnet Mask. This setting is required to use AT&T Broadband Internet. Select the DNS Configuration tab. Verify that Disable DNS is selected. Select the Gateway tab. Make sure there are no Gateway entries installed. If there are any installed gateways listed, click Remove and then click OK for each of them. Select the WINS Configuration tab. Verify that Disable WINS Resolution is selected. Click OK on the TCP/IP Properties window and the Network window to finish.
Configuring TCP/IP On Windows Me
Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. Double-click the Network icon. Select the listed instance of TCP/IP that is associated with your network adapter, and click Properties. The TCP/IP Properties window will open. Verify that the IP Address tab is selected. Select Obtain an IP Address Automatically by clicking its radio button. This will gray out any previously set IP Address or Subnet Mask. This setting is required to use AT&T Broadband Internet Service. At the bottom of the screen, verify that Detect connection to network media is checked. Select the Gateway tab. There should be no items listed under Installed gateways. If there are entries, select each one and click Remove. Select the DNS Configuration tab. Make sure that Disable DNS is selected. Click OK on the TCP/IP Properties window and the Network window to finish.
Configuring TCP/IP On Windows NT 4.0
Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. Double-click the Network icon. Select the Protocols tab. Highlight TCP/IP Protocol, and click Properties. Select the IP Address tab. Verify that your network card is selected from the list under Adapter. Select the button next to Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server. Selecting this will gray out any previously set addresses. This setting is required to use AT&T Broadband Internet Service. Select the DNS tab. Delete any contents in the box next to Domain. Highlight each IP address (if any) listed under DNS Service Search Order and click Remove. Highlight each domain (if any) listed under Domain Suffix Search Order and click Remove. Select the WINS Address tab. The only entry here should be your network card, listed under Adapter. If there is anything entered for Primary WINS Server and/or Secondary WINS Server, delete it. Click Close. You will be prompted to restart your computer. These changes will not take effect until you have restarted, at which point you should be configured to use AT&T Broadband Internet.
Configuring TCP/IP On Windows 2000
Click Start, point to Settings, and click Network and Dial-Up Connections. Double-click on the Local Area Connection icon. Click Properties in the Local Area Connection Status window. The network card that you use for your connection should be displayed under Connect using. The components bound to that card will be listed below it. Verify that the box next to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is checked (place a check there if it is not). In the list, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server automatically. Selecting these will gray out any previously set addresses or servers. These settings are required to use AT&T Broadband Internet Service. Click OK on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window and the Local Area Connection Status window to finish.
Configuring Internet Explorer 4.x
Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. Double-click on the Internet icon. The General tab will be displayed. Under Home Page, change the address to: attbi.com. (You may, of course, choose any home page; for the latest information provided by us at AT&T Broadband Internet Service, we recommend the above.) Select the Connection tab. Make sure the box next to Access the Internet using a proxy server is not selected. This will gray out any manually entered proxy settings. This is required to use this service. Click OK on the Settings window and the Internet Options window to finish.
Configuring Internet Explorer 5.x and 6
Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. Double-click on the Internet Options icon. The General tab will be displayed. Under Home Page, change the address to: attbi.com. (You may, of course, choose any home page; for the latest information provided by us at AT&T Broadband Internet Service, we recommend the above.) Select the Connections tab. Verify that the button labeled Never dial a connection is selected. Click the LAN Settings button. In the Settings window, make sure the boxes next to Use a proxy server, Automatically detect settings, and Use automatic configuration script are not selected. This will gray out any proxy settings. This is required to use this service. Click OK on the Settings window and the Internet Options window to finish.
Configuring Netscape 4.5 and 4.7
AT&T Broadband does not support Netscape. These steps are provided for your convenience only. No other AT&T Broadband support is available for issues related to this Application.
Start Netscape, click on the Edit menu, and select the Preferences option. The Preferences dialog box will open. Go to Mail & Newsgroups on the left side of the window and click the + sign to display the list of options. Select Identity from the list. Verify or fill in the field under Your name. This is how your name will be displayed to those you send messages. Make sure the field under E-mail address uses the following format: yourusername@attbi.com. (In other words, if your e-mail username/ID is, for example, jdoe, make sure that jdoe@attbi.com is entered here.) If you use a different e-mail address for replies, enter that in the Reply-to address... box. Again, make sure that this address follows the yourusername@attbi.com format. Select Mail Servers from the list under Mail & Newsgroups. In the Incoming Mail Servers box, select the account you need to change and click Edit. If there is no listed account, click Add. The Mail Server Properties window will open. Under Server Name, enter mail.attbi.com. Verify that Server Type is set to POP3 Server, and that your User Name is correct. Click OK to apply these changes. You will return to the Mail Servers Preferences. In the field next to Outgoing mail (SMTP) server, enter mail.attbi.com. Select Newsgroup Servers from the list to the left. In the Newsgroup Servers box, click Add. The Newsgroup Server Properties dialog box will open. Under Server, enter netnews.attbi.com. Click OK to apply these changes. Select Navigator from the list on the left. In the field next to Location, enter attbi.com Select Advanced from the list on the left and click the + sign to display the list of options Select Proxies from the list Click on the button next to Direct connection to the Internet. All other fields on this screen should be blank or grayed out. This is necessary for your AT&T Broadband Internet connection to work properly. Click OK again in the Preferences dialog box to save all the changes. Note: There are many other areas under Preferences that can be changed and configured by you. Those explained above are those that are necessary for Netscape Messenger 4.5 or 4.7 to work with the service.
Configuring Netscape 6.0 and 6.1
AT&T Broadband does not support Netscape. These steps are provided for your convenience only. No other AT&T Broadband support is available for issues related to this Application.
Unlike previous versions of Netscape, you cannot edit the name of your incoming mail account setting. You will need to set up a new mail (and news, if applicable) account.
Start Netscape, click on the Tasks menu, and select the Mail option. This will take you into the Netscape mail program. Click on the Edit menu, and select Mail/News Account Settings. Select the New Account button from the left side of the window. The Netscape Account Wizard will open. Verify that ISP or e-mail provider is selected from the list, and click Next. In the Your Name field, enter your name as you would like it to appear in the From field of outgoing messages. In the E-mail Address field, enter your current e-mail username (for example, "jdoe"), followed by @attbi.com. In other words, for this example you would enter jdoe@attbi.com. Click Next. Under Incoming Server: Make sure POP Mail Server is selected from the drop-down list next to Server Type. Enter mail.attbi.com in the field next to Server Name. Under Outgoing (SMTP) Server: Enter mail.attbi.com in the field next to Server Name. Click Next. Enter your e-mail id (the part of your e-mail address to the left of the @ symbol) in the User Name field. Click Next. Enter a name for your account in the Account Name field. Click Next. Verify your information. If there is any erroneous information, or something was entered that conflicts with the format explained above, click Back until you get to the screen with the mistake, fix it, and click Next again until you get to the final screen. Click Finish to save your settings and exit the Account Wizard. If you have a newsgroup account, you will need to run the Account Wizard again to add the newsgroup settings. Follow the same steps above, but in Step 4, select Newsgroup account from the list and then enter netnews.attbi.com as your news (NNTP) server. The rest of the steps are the same. Remember to use the username@attbi.com format for your e-mail address. Next, you will need to adjust your Internet Home Page and proxy settings. Click on the Edit menu and select Preferences. Select Navigator from the list on the left. In the box next to Location, enter attbi.com Click on the + sign next to Advanced to expand the list, and select Proxies. Click on the button next to Direct connection to the Internet. All other fields on this screen should be blank or grayed out. This is necessary for your AT&T Broadband Internet connection to work properly. Click OK to apply these changes.
Note: There are many other areas in your Mail/News Account Settings that can be changed and configured by you. Those explained above are those that are necessary for Netscape Messenger 6.0 or 6.1 to work with the service.
Configuring Eudora 4.x
AT&T Broadband does not support Eudora. These steps are provided for your convenience only. No other AT&T Broadband support is available for issues related to this Application.
Open Eudora, click on the Tools entry on the menu bar and select Options. The Options window will open. Select the Getting Started icon in the left portion of the window. In the Return address box, adjust your e-mail address to match the following format: yourusername@attbi.com. (The part of the e-mail address that appears before the "@" symbol should match what is entered for Login name on this screen.) In the Mail Server (Incoming) box, change the field to read: mail.attbi.com. Select the Checking Mail icon on the left side of the window. In the Mail Server box, change the field to read, or verify that it reads: mail.attbi.com. Select the Incoming Mail icon on the left side of the window. Make sure the Server configuration is set for POP. Select the Sending Mail icon on the left side of the window. In the Return address box, adjust your e-mail address to the following format: yourusername@attbi.com, if not already done so. Leave Domain to add to unqualified addresses blank. In the SMTP Server box, change the field to read, or verify that it reads: mail.attbi.com. Click OK to save these changes. Note: There are many other areas under Options that can be changed and configured by you. Those explained above are those that are necessary for Eudora 4.x to work with the service.
Configuring Eudora 5.0 and 5.1

In the Return address box, adjust your e-mail address to match the following format: yourusername@attbi.com. In the Mail Server (Incoming) box, change the field to read: mail.attbi.com. In the Login Name box, change the address to match what is in the Return address box. In the SMTP Server (Outgoing) box, change the field to read: mail.attbi.com. Select the Checking Mail icon in the left portion of the window. Verify that the Mail Server and Login Name fields are the same as those entered in Steps 4 and 5. Make sure the Send on check box is checked. Select Required, Alternate Port from the drop-down menu below Secure Sockets when Receiving. Select the Incoming Mail icon in the left portion of the window. Select POP for Server configuration. Select Passwords for Authentication style. Select the Sending Mail icon in the left portion of the window. The Return address and SMTP server fields should contain the same information given in Steps 3 and 6. Leave the box labeled Domain to add to unqualified addresses blank. Select Required, Alternate Port from the drop-down menu below Secure Sockets when Receiving. Click OK to save these settings. Note: There are many other areas under Options that can be changed and configured by you. Those explained above are those that are necessary for Eudora 5.0 or 5.1 to work with the service.
Configuring Outlook Express for the first time:
Open Outlook Express by double-clicking the icon located on your desktop or click the Envelope icon wrapped with a blue arrow located on your toolbar next to the Start button. If this is your first time launching Outlook Express, the Internet Connection Wizard will open to guide you through configuration. If you do not see this window, please proceed to Reconfiguring Outlook Express. In the Internet Connection Wizard, type your name in the Display name field as you would like it to appear when you send e-mail and then click Next. Enter your e-mail address in the field provided in the format: username@attbi.com. Click Next. In the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server field, type: mail.attbi.com. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field, type: mail.attbi.com. In the News (NNTP) server field, type: netnews.attbi.com. Click NEXT. Enter your username in the Account name field and your password in the Password field. (If you do not wish to supply your password each time you check for incoming mail, verify that the Remember password box is checked.) Click Next and then select Finish.
Reconfiguring Outlook Express:
Open Outlook Express and select the Tools menu. Select Accounts. Click the Mail tab to make it the active window. Click to highlight the account name you want to verify or reconfigure and then click Properties. Note: If you do not see the e-mail account listed, remove any accounts in the dialog box that are not being used by selecting the account and clicking Remove. Then click Add and select Mail. Then follow the instructions, beginning at Step 2, under Configuring Outlook Express for the First Time. Verify that the General tab is displayed. If you wish to change the Account name to one that is more easily recognizable (for example, AT&T), change the name displayed in the Mail Account field. If you wish to edit your name and e-mail address settings, use the fields provided under User Information. Click APPLY. If you do not wish to edit information on other property tabs, click OK. To edit the mail server address information, select the Servers tab. Verify that the Incoming mail (POP3) field displays: mail.attbi.com. The Outgoing mail (SMTP) field should display: mail.attbi.com. The Account name should display your username. If you have elected to save your password, or if you are entering your password in this field for the first time or replacing it, it will be displayed as asterisks. To verify that your e-mail is removed from the AT&T Broadband Cable Internet mail server: Select the Advanced tab and make sure the box beside Leave a copy of messages on server is not checked. When done, select APPLY and then click OK. If you have a newsgroup account, you will need to add a new account to use these services. Follow the first two steps as above, but in Step 3, click the Add button and then the News button. Enter netnews.attbi.com as your news (NNTP) server and remember to use the username@attbi.com format for you e-mail address. Click Next and then click Finish.
Just Tell Me The Settings, I'll Handle It
You may be running any of a large variety of applications; we can give you the settings, but if you are comfortable configuring your own software, this should be the information you will need. It is up to you to determine where those settings need to be configured within your applications.
TCP/IP: Make sure DHCP is turned on. DHCP allows your computer to automatically request network settings from the network. With this setting enabled, there is no need to directly set any other TCP/IP settings.
E-Mail: POP3 (Incoming Mail) Server: mail.attbi.com SMTP (Outgoing Mail) Server: mail.attbi.com Your E-Mail ID: You still have your old e-mail ID, but the domain (the part after the "@" sign) has changed; you must change the domain to "attbi.com." If your e-mail address was "buddy@home.com," you should change it to "buddy@attbi.com."
Web Browser: Home Page: attbi.com (You may, of course, choose any home page; for the latest information provided by us at AT&T Broadband Internet, we recommend the above.) Proxy Server, and Proxy Automatic Configuration: None should be set.
