Nicely said, Neocon. I am an admittedly bad Catholic myself.

To the extent that this thread is some kind of reflection of ordinary discourse in America ... I think it sad that there are those who take pleasure in attempting to deflate, mock, or ridicule religious beliefs held by others. It is one thing to respond to people who parade their religious beliefs excessively or who use religion as a justification for denigrating the beliefs of others; e.g., the Jerry Falwells of society. But is quite another thing to take some smug satisfaction in poking fun (or worse) at those masses of people who quietly find comfort in their belief that there is a God and that life has a divine purpose. For such people, their beliefs enrich their lives and make them better people than they would be otherwise, while hurting no one. It is mean-spirited, petty, and a poor employment of intellect, to look for opportunities to undermine the religious faith of others.
