And here's an interesting post on the QQQ rebalancing taken from Jon at the SEPR Yahoo club:

Stocks being added are based on Oct 31 price times Nov 30 shares outstanding to get rankings.

Deletions from Nazz 100 are as follows

1. Any current member in the Top 150 of the new list stays in. All others thrown out.
2. Bankruptcies thrown out.
3. Any stock with avg trading volume less than 100,000 shares per day thrown out.
4. Any foreign stock less than $10 B in market cap or 200,000 shares traded per day thrown out.

Requirements to be added

1. Top ranked market cap guys not in index
2. Must have been traded for 2 years
3. 100,000 share daily volume
4. $10 B market cap for foreign (200k volume)
5. Non-financial
6. Not bankrupt

Stocks added based on Dec 21 closing prices to effect the reweight and index based on market caps as of that time. Hence, large laggard stocks will face deweighting (INTC, AMZN, CSCO, etc.) and will therefore have index selling. Well performing midcaps will have weighting increases (up to 1 days volume from the list I saw for some companies). New entries will have the highest volume.
