wbmw,
I don't know what you are trying to prove. I started reading the Compaq page (which is incidentally called endorsements.html), and it is just that - endorsements, plans for the future, commitments, not actual sales.
I am not going to say that endorsements are useless. If you have one of these in printed form, and you are in a bathroom without toilet paper, they are priceless.
As far as Dell, you can go on-line to look up the direct quote from the Dell guy, talking about lack of demand for Itanium.
Itanium may one day be a platform of choice, but it is not it today, and pretending it is makes you look foolish.
One thing about Itanium that no other platform can match is press releases and endorsements.
Since you took time to look up all these press releases, I have a more interesting project for you. How about you count all the press releases, and use some of your inside information about Itanium sales, and come up with a a P / U ratio, which stands for Press Releases / Unit Sales.
Joe
PS: Another thing about all these press releases and the amount of the money committed to Itanium by outside parties is something to keep in mind, because it is the minimum amount Intel will get sued over if Itanium ever gets canceled. Of course the amount will be inflated, and can potentially result in a law suit of Titanic proportions. |
