Indeed I know who wrote ride hard, shoot straight etc. It was a certain Mr. Davis. However, SOB said it was not, so I am awaiting his "final answer." Until then, I will tell you that it was a certain Mr. Davis.

And, no, it was not part of a rock 'n roll song. Nor was it first, although later, part of West Point lore. Nor, finally, was it first part of the Acton Rangers.
