There is an absolutely outstanding article at the Inquirer. It's an article / analysis, and not the usual news item. 213.219.40.69 Very little about AMD, but it sounds like the High Performance Technical Computing segment is going to be up for grabs right about the time Hammer debuts. Buyers in this category are independent and willing to go with less well known solutions if they offer the best performance. If AMD can gain a solid foothold in this segment, they can begin building a critical mass to help make a run at the enterprise. If AMD can get anything approaching volume in some high end machines, and maintain a consistent architecture and instruction set from performance desktops to "big iron", Itanium/IA-64 would appear less and less a relevant solution, and could easily be marginalized.
