I don't think that that gentleman claimed that the Quran has no validity, any book revered by a billion people has validity if for no other reason that it is followed by so many people. The question is to what extent the Quran's dictates can be modified from its original premise (it is all of "them against us") that was appropriate for a nascent religion, to a more tolerant stance ("there are a lot of us, so we can afford to let "them" do what they want").
