From the WIND 1998 First Quarter Report:

"Next quarter, we look forward to a successful Mars landing by Pathfinder, aided by VxWorks, the first real-time operating system chosen for a mission to another planet. VxWorks is involved in overall communications processing for the Pathfinder spacecraft as it flies toward Mars - enabling scientists to control the craft's trajectory. After the spacecraft lands, VxWorks will manage communication between Pathfinder and its rover module, Sojourner, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California. Our selection for this very important program underscores the confidence that JPL has in the mission-critical robustness of our operating system and in Wind River as a whole."
