Excellent post -- your point about falling in love with certain ideas and becoming stupid is eye-opening.

If the Israelis do destroy Hamas and Hizbolla in their own country and repress/kill the extremist mullahs, and find some reasonable Palestinians to talk to, they then will have to deal with their own extremists right away. They are every bit as narrow and nasty as the Arab ones.

While this is true, it is something of a non-sequitur from the rest of your post. All the conditions you describe, which have bred up a large number of extremists among the Arabs, do not exist among the Israelis. The Israeli extremists, while certainly not limited in extremism, are limited in numbers. The Israeli government has shown a good track record in maintaining one government policy, one army, and not letting the extremists hijack the policy or the army. This is certainly not true among the Palestinians.
