This is of course a matter of opinion, but I think you're underestimating them. TCI has no financial incentive to give you good service; indeed, many monopolies have thrived on giving customers legendary bad service (Microsoft, for one). When it comes to understanding what people want, cable companies are (unfortunately for the fate of digital media) miles ahead of everyone else.
