Raster Graphics has a good product that is outselling it's best competitor, the Xerox 8900 series, 2:1. They are extremely vulnerable, however, to low-cost printers like Encad makes. They need a product similar to what they have now at 1/4th the price to be safe. When I see new R&D pointing in that direction, I'll buy this one up.

Do you still follow this one? I have really mixed feelings on this one and I was hoping someone here could help.

Basically we have -
P1000 Printer - List for $20k
P5000 Printer - List for $50k

The P1000 will accept 52" media while the P5000 accepts 54".

The entire P1000 is purchased from a foreign manufacterer and has significant competition from Encad and Lastermaster (both of these companies recently announced 60" machines) but has the only 720 dpi in its class. The P5000 is also in a very competitive environment but has several awards under its belt. I believe the DCS 5442 is priced just under $100k.

I think that the P5000 might cut into sales of the higher priced DCS 5442. BTW - The DCS 5442 is a top end 1,200 square ft/hour 200 x 400 dpi electrostatic machine compared to with the P5000 which is a 360 sqare ft/hour 309 x 309 dpi inkjet which is developed in house unlike the P1000.

The competition seems to be touting 60" as a huge advantage but it is only 6" more than a comparable RGFX machine. I'm curious as to what the market is thinking.

What is your opinion on the whole subject?

Thanks,
Dg
