I don't want to take this discussion down the road to a debate on Israel/Palestine. Both sides of that debate can be argued for years with neither side being convinced of the other's views.
However, looking at it from the Palestinian radicals' viewpoint (since they are the Muslims and this forum is about Islam), they are at war with Israel. Therefore, unless Israel and Palestine sign a peace treaty, the war is ongoing. You need a treaty to formally show that both parties agree to stop fighting. Once the treaty is signed, it must be honored by both sides. However, I am not an Islamic scholar so I'm not familiar with the procedure for ending a war in which you were attacked first, so I may have this wrong.
When I speak of non-combatants, I am talking about innocent civilians -- women, children, elderly, sick, handicapped (physically and mentally), etc -- not whether or not the military chooses to fight on a certain day. |
