When I was a sophomore in high school, I was on "It's Academic" for the DC metro area. The next year, I was captain. We never practiced (our advisor was lame, and I was elected captain at the last minute). The first year, we went to play- offs. Both years, we were beaten by the same team. Although we had been winning, when it came time to do the buzzer competition, they kept beating us on the buzzer. They were trained not to hesitate, and to hope someone knew the answer after they buzzed in. We lost by frustratingly narrow margins, always way ahead of the third team......
