I think many of the analysts also fail to compare rates of increase with historical rates of increase in sales -- reports of profitability shouldn't be trusted at this pt, IMO. Instead they herald any positive increase in sales.
I think it is telling that HD is slowing its growth


Agree completely. Also completely left out of their analysis is profitability. It will be woeful this year.

My experience in the clothing sector -- just as a consumer -- is that the gimmicks employed really are giving consumers lower prices on a historical basis -- have the costs to produce dropped as much?? -- I doubt it.



I am not sure I agree. My anecdotal experience (not that it is really worth much. I hate shopping. My wife buys my clothes) is that retail prices are at least keeping up with inflation, and from what I read costs seem to be continually shifted to less and less developed countries.
