Hey, I was a HS chess player, too! Captain of the team. We didn't get ratings back then; I don't think they rated the junior players back then, though maybe they did and we just didn't get involved in it. When I got to college used to play just for fun (Neo, was the room behind the mailboxes in McDowell still the chess room when you went? was when I did, you could get a game most evenings if you wanted a study break), but we didn't have a chess team in college.

I was by far the best at speed chess -- we would set the clocks for 120 seconds each for the full game. I almost never lost that. And even when we went to 5 and 10 minute games, I was ferocious. But didn't have patience for the 2 hour clock games -- I got bored waiting for the other guy to move and lost my focus.
