Up to 30 Feared Shot at Ind. Factory
Thursday December 6 3:45 PM ET

GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) - As many as 30 people were feared shot Thursday at a factory in an industrial park, authorities said.

Sheriff's Capt. Julie Dijkstra said there were no fatalities immediately reported. She said a former employee at the Nu-Wood simulated wood factory was believed to be responsible.

The gunman may still be in the building, she said.

``They don't know if the shooter or shooters are still in the area,'' Mayor Allan Kauffman said. ``As of this minute the area is still not secured, so they don't know if the shooter is still there or not.''

Police surrounded the factory and cordoned off the area.

``There are cops on the roof of a building east of Nu-Wood and the alley is filled with cops, with guns drawn,'' said Roy Beaupain, president of nearby Economy Offset Printers.

Donna Rohrer, vice president of Goshen General Hospital, told MSNBC that three patients had been treated for wounds. She refused to release details.

Goshen, a community of 29,000 people, is in northern Indiana, about 100 miles east of Chicago.

A Goshen police dispatcher would not provide any immediate information, but said that all officers were being called in.

Officers from several departments were being sent to the scene, Indiana State Police said.
