Actually, the airlines were doing fine for quite some time, and deregulation was a big boon to consumers. It is not to blame for current problems. Banks were not a big problem, it was savings and loans. That was a complicated set of circumstances, and some of the initiative was taken in the Democratic Congress. Anyway, failure to implement properly in a given instance does not mean it was a bad idea generally. In many instances, as with the telecommunications industry, deregulation was a big success.
One learns as one goes along......
