Let's look at the actual numbers, and compare Y2K to today:

Today, we are exactly where we were in 12/98. The 11/01 bottom in the 10Y T-note yield was almost exactly the same as the 10/98 low. So, the bond vigilantes and not "dumping long bonds something fierce" to any greater extent now than in December 1998.
