Intel mid quarter update notes

- Believes that Intel will at least double the volumes of Pentium 4 over last quarter (if not, more).

- It's still possible to get cancellations before the end of the quarter. Andy Bryant cautions that sales are not definite yet.

- Unit shipments are seasonal with historical 4th quarters, which have been very good for Intel in the past.

- Processor factories are completely full. Memory factories are not. Production is better than expected.

- Transition to P4 is faster than expected.

- Claims market share gains in October, and that they will hold these gains until the end of the quarter.

- Cost savings question: why doesn't .13u appear to have much cost savings by the end of 2002? Answer is that transition to larger Pentium 4 die almost cancels out the benefit of .13u manufacturing.

- Pulling sales from Q1 (a.k.a. channel stuffing): admits that it's possible for customers to over-order, but sales in the distribution channel and talks with customers suggest that pulling of sales from Q1 is *not* going on.

- 300mm wafers start production next quarter.
