ADSK is in competition with MAPS (MapInfo) and a private company called ESRI.

"Location-based" services are the outgrowth of a 30 year old industry known as Geographic Information Systems or GIS.

ADSK has a weak history of integration with relational databases and is a factor difficult for them to overcome. This is the fundamental requirement in sophisticated and cost effective solutions for the wireless industry.

ADSK is one of the worlds leading computer aided design (CAD) software companies.

ESRI has the longest history of relational database integration yet has created confused products over the past few years. ESRI is private and will remain so for the forseeable future.

MAPS has developed specific products for Telecom for over 5 years and has the development and marketing lead in this area. I posted an alert here on MAPS back on 10/31 when it was under 9 bucks and believe it will continue to be favored as long as wireless services see real growth.

In addition MAPS should realize additional sales of its core products as a result of 9/11 and the need for government and industry to expand the development of geospatial databases for security and asset mapping purposes. In their last CC, the announce a relationship with Siemens for wireless integration.

MAPS has greater reward vs risk, IMHO.
