I don't buy that. It appears the problems could be deeper.
1. Intel could have had the P4s ready when AMD was transitioning to XP and couldn't deliver.
2. Some major OEMS could have been banking on nFOrce boards that are late so they had to order more P4s.
3. AMD could have trouble with XP yields or whatever.
4. Maybe OEMs were scared of the economy and decided to only support one platform in pre-builts? Copying Dell...

5.. XPs do seem available. Just not at retail shelves.

None of this looks good for AMD. Hard to believe they can make it up in screwdriver shops and overseas. We'll see.
