US Congress Draws A Line In The Sand For The PA
(IsraelNationalNews.com) In a decisive effort to thwart terrorism, the United States Congress drew a line in the sand for the PA and its unsubstantiated commitment to fight terror. A concurrent resolution passed yesterday in both the House and the Senate urges the President to “suspend all relations with Yasser Arafat and the PA if they fail to take actions” to crack town on terrorists.

In the House, the effort was led by Tom Lantos (D-CA) and Henry Hyde (R-IL) and passed overwhelmingly 384 to 11. In the Senate Joe Biden (D-DE) and Jesse Helms (R-NC) led the effort, which passed by unanimous consent.

“This resolution clearly shows the exasperation of Congress with Arafat’s continued indulgence in terror— even as he professes a desire for peace,” said AIPAC President Tim Wuliger. “Congress is telling him he must either act to end Palestinian terror or forfeit his relationship with America—demonstrating he is on the wrong side of the war against terrorism. There is no misconstruing this message. Arafat is on the verge of losing his relationship with the United States.”

“Despite continued calls from Israel, the United States and the international community, Arafat’s efforts to thwart terrorist attacks against Israelis have been barely detectable,” Wuliger continued. “The US relationship with the PLO began and grew only because of its pledge to renounce violence and pursue a negotiated settlement to the conflict with Israel. Arafat has failed to back up his words with deeds, instead encouraging terrorist groups to operate in territory under his control and forcing Israel to the front lines of the battle against terrorism. If Arafat does not take conclusive action against the terrorists, Congress has made clear today that his ties with the United States should be lost.”
