However, unless it is a "lot better" than 10% AMD would have to have a lot of losses in other areas. Maybe AMD is being aggressive on projecting CPU revenues (to bolster confidence in CPU position) but conservative on total revenues (to ward off more shareholder lawsuits)?

It doesn't necessarily have to be losses in the other business areas that reduces the bottom line. My guess is that AMD are planning to bring forward as many charges as they can, to bolster what could be a very weak Q1.
