I also want to add that the only way I think Enron can be salvaged is by a government supported bailout and reorganization. I will allow for this possibility in my thinking on this matter. But I am skeptical considering the amounts of money that we are dealing with here. Enron deals for the most part with "soft" assets in its energy trading business. I would think that this type of asset can be renegotiated by their trading partners with other trading companies. Furthermore, the SEC investigation is not finished yet. And the congressionally sponsored investigation is just beginning. So it will be some time before we find out what will happen to Enron.

What is the status of this congressional investigation of Enron that I have heard a little about?
