Take your pick:

1. Larger than expected number of job layoffs, suggesting economic recovery may not occur in early 2002.

2. Widespread analysts downgrades among tech stocks, due to overvaluation. Regardless of the prospects of economic recovery, many of these stocks are up 100-200% in past two months -- unwarranted.

3. Panic buying over the past several days -- as the individual investor chases the Nasdaq and once again manages to catch the top while institutions are cashing in and taking profits.
